grateful / greatful
Sometimes it is good for me to just be thankful. I wish I could pinch myself every time I complained. Funny enough though, when someone corrects me I always immediately think I’m justified for my whining & moaning. Let me tell myself now, in front of my vast vast readership (kidding, completely), that 99.98% of the time it is not necessary, justified or warranted.
Things to be grateful for, however.
101. Ira Glass and his team of reporters that bring humor, intelligence and connection to my commutes.
102. Friends & family who let me pretend like their dogs are my own when I ache for canine-ownership. Or even better yet, I am thankful to be a god-mother to my friend’s favorite four-legged companion (no kidding here).
103. Air-Conditioning. It is an incredible invention, even if we do not have it ourselves in this 1960s apartment.
104. Discipline. Long time coming, long time finding. Bird by tiny bird, I am finding how to pursue discipline in writing, in cooking, and caring for people, and I feel like I’ve been missing out for so long.
105. Weekends. You weekend warriors, appreciate that you always have two days off in a row. Puhlease, you have no idea how good you have it.
106. The Listening Room, of course, for introducing me to artists like Annie Crane. She is one of those artists that I want to ask, with a strained voice and grabbing her hands, how did I not know you existed?
107. My no A/C, sometimes the oven doesn’t work, and the mailman didn’t come again, apartment. I have a front porch, spacious rooms, a sweet roomie, washer & dryer…!. I realized the other day that I have never spent this much time at my place of residence since I lived with my parents. Good riddance! Feels good to have a home.
108. The Village. All of them. Every single one. The ladies who make me feel okay, normal, connected. A boyfriend who makes me feel like my pies are something to write home about. A family that makes me feel so overwhelmed with grace and hospitality, that I ache to be able to reciprocate.
Thanks, gracias, grazie, merci! Bacci bacci bacci!
